New Listings on Etsy

I have neglected the shop for a while, but have decided to give it one more try. In the weeks to come, I will be listing more and more items. I'm starting with putting up the remaining Searching for the Punctum prints that I showed at VCFA and at the Art Hop. I sold quite a few of these already, but they do make lovely and fairly inexpensive gifts.
I have them priced @ $38 each (plus shipping) with discounts for purchases of multiples of 3 or more. This is a special introductory ETSY price. And will only last until CHRISTMAS.
Everything ships with in 3 days via first class mail.
Here's the link for my shop. GLIMMERING PRIZE.
All of these one of a kind prints have been listed in the last day. You can click through the image to their listing on ETSY as well.

I'll be running some cool promotions too with discount coupon codes and FREE giveaways so make sure to check back to the blog every Sunday for regular updates.
Its been a cold and drizzly day, so I didn't mind staying in by the fire and getting it this internet stuff done.
Now I think its time to take a break from the computer, start thinking about making some dinner and catching up with the rest of my chores. Hope you are all staying warm and dry. My thoughts and prayers going out to all of you down in the New York Metro area who are coping with the aftereffect of Hurricane Sandy.

Be well and stay creative!
Until next time

Winners and Losers
Yesterday, I spent the day at Artists Medium, teaching some incredible women how to make altered books. It was a great group and I am so inspired by their creativity and energy. I want to give a special shout out to Chelsea, Kristen and the entire staff at AM, who always make me feel so at home when I teach in their space! Thank you!
Also, I am sure you all want to know who is getting the Altered Book Kit.... Can I have a drum roll please.....

The winner of my altered book giveaway is Carol Berger... Miss Queen Bee, herself! Thank you, Carol for sharing the love of Glimmering Prize too all your peeps on Facebook. Carol is a terrific mixed media artist, herself. I can't wait to see what she makes from all the great paper and materials I'm sending her.
If you didn't win this time, don't worry, I am doing another very special giveaway at the end of the month. I'll give you a hint... it has something to do with boxes...and another class that I am teaching @ Art-Is-You in Danbury, CT.

After pulling together all the materials for Carol's prize I realized just how much "stuff" I have filling the shelves in my workroom.
I've been busy working on new pieces for up coming shows and I have no where to put the completed work. So I have to clear out some space in the workroom. I spent a good portion of the morning photographing tons of great ephemera packs and old photos, that I just don't have the space for.
My loss is your gain. Check out my ETSY site all this week. I will be listing like crazy. There will be new stuff added daily. This is just a teaser of some of the stuff I am listing....There will be lots of old photo lots, Ephemera paper collage packs, beautiful old sheet music, vibrant children's books with wonderful illustrations, and lots of rusty bits. There might even be an odd curiosity or two. Wonderful stuff for all your mixed media projects. Thanks for stopping by! Hope you have an artful day!

Our Darling
I am extremely lucky to have good friends around me, who always have insightful tips for me. Like this one from a fantastic graphic designer I know. A while back, he said to me: "Your work is great, but you really need to improve your photography." I took his work to heart and bought a new camera. Got some clip lights and created some white drapes. The result...I have to say, I am very happy with....
This is a new, soon to be listed on ETSY piece, called Our Darling. Part of my latest Soul House series that uses old bird houses as foundations for mixed media assemblages. This one is has a little different feel than some of the others. But I love the way the inside came to life with just a little light shining in from the side.
And finally.... A hearty congratulations are in order for.....Laurel Martin. The winner of my giveaway, who's name was chosen at random by my son Henry! If you didn't win, don't worry, there will be other giveaway in the next few months. You'll just have to stay tuned... there's a lot more fun in store for 2011!

ETSY Love
Strangest thing happened this week- I was in 4 Etsy treasuries. This never happens to me. Etsy has been pretty much on snooze for the past year. So to get so much attention in one week, just sort of knocked my socks off.
Thank you all the shops who have featured my work this week! Hopefully it will lead to some sales.

fabric-o-rama

using fabric for me has always been about texture. besides the fact that i don't seem to have the patience (or the skill) to make anything come out "flat", i love to have texture in my work. when i started this art journey and making altered books, i quickly found that fabric had so many uses. first, i adds texture and interest to the surface, secondly, i used it to cover the myriad of mistakes i made, and lastly, it help the pages from sticking together. now, there are fewer mistakes to cover, but i still use fabric. besides, it's a resource that i have tons and tons of. there was a time when i was selling bags of fabric scraps on etsy because i had so much of it.

the piece that really shows how versatile fabric can be as a medium is in my altered book, "angels have wings." the cover is a corset and fabric is found on almost every page, from the flames that engulf the workers of the triangle shirt waist factory from hand embroidered flaming heart of Mary that boldly sings out on the final page.
i love using fabric so much, it's pretty much always been a part of my art. i do recommend that you take the plunge and try it yourself if

Got supplies?
when people see my work, they always ask me where do i get my materials? i tell them: treasure hunting. it's treasure hunting season. the weather is getting warmer. tag sales and outdoor flea markets are starting to pop up all over the place. which means one thing: i have to make room for new supplies. that mean's i will be listing lots of materials on etsy in the next few weeks so i can have space to all the new treasure i find.

i just put up some darling images of flappers that i found and relisted a few ephemera packs.

need golden angel wings? i've got some more of those to list too!
thanks for looking!

Thanks Queenie!
If there is one thing that stands out about Etsy it is the community of mixed media artists that sell there. It has been fantastic getting to know people. There support and enthusiasm is amazing. One of the wonderful people I have met there is Carol Berger, aka Queen Be. Carol is a wonderful artist, who has been selling on Etsy since May of 2008. She has honored me with this a lovely call out on her blog, Queen Be's Altered Needs. Thanks Carol!

So part of this call out is that I have to post 5 things I'm really into right now.
1-Facebook- I joined about two weeks at the recommendation of a close friend. I've been addicted since day one. It's been a fantastic way to keep in touch with people I don't normally see, or those who are far away.
2-The Book of Questions- I was first introduced to this book, back in 1988, on some weekend escape from the city. I recently was in one of my favorite second hand shops, Replays and found it waiting quietly on the shelf for me. It now sits on my desk, along side the Zen tarot and the Soul's Book of Answers.

3- The Artist's Medium, This is the best art supply spot in Chittenden county. The staff here is wonderful, they always have an online coupon to use, the store is well stocked with Golden paints and they carry huge tubs of gel medium! Yum! Right now they are doing a recycled art show and have a few of my mixed media collage on old book covers on display. I am doing two classes with them in April. More about that in a month or too.
4-Bees. Yes, those little winged creatures that make honey. I'm working on a new piece for the Cloth Paper Scissors 12x12" Life is like a box full of......( fill in the blanks) I've been doing research on bees and honey for this piece. I think it is going to come out really well.

5-Marketing and Communications...I suppose it goes along with the Facebook thing, maybe. I'm working on a new look for my shop, pulling together business materials and making plans for growth. When I start thinking about where I am going to be in 5 years, I need to work on organizing my branding and business in general. So be on the look out for a new look from me in the months to come.
Thanks again, Carol for you friendship and support!
